Junior Grounds Person

Full-time, permanent position

Commencing Monday 2 August, 2021 (or earlier by agreement)

An opportunity exists for a proactive Junior Grounds Person to join the team to provide general upkeep and presentation of the College’s grounds. The Junior Grounds Person will also assist the maintenance team with scheduled maintenance and other duties as required.

Located in Kamerunga, a suburb of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland, Peace Lutheran College is a Kindy to Year 12 Christian, co-educational day and boarding school nestled in the picturesque hills between Redlynch and Lake Placid on the Barron River, only 15 minutes west of the Cairns CBD.

Candidates will be required to meeting the following selection criteria:

  • Certificate II or III in Horticulture or equivalent highly regarded (or be willing to obtain in future for the right candidate).
  • Hold a current driver’s licence.
  • HR driver’s licence (desirable, or willing to obtain in future).
  • Previous grounds keeping experience highly regarded.
  • Training in manual handling and use of chainsaw desirable
  • Certificate/license for herbicide handling desirable (or be willing to obtain in future for the right candidate).
  • First Aid Certificate or be willing to obtain one.
  • Current Working with Children Suitability Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply.
  • Previous general maintenance of school facilities highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices highly regarded.

Transport Coordinator

Permanent part-time, term-time position (20-30 hours per week)

An opportunity exists for a proactive Transport Coordinator to join the team to oversee the College’s transport staff and fleet.

Located in Kamerunga, a suburb of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland, Peace Lutheran College is a Kindy to Year 12 Christian, co-educational day and boarding school nestled in the picturesque hills between Redlynch and Lake Placid on the Barron River, only 15 minutes west of the Cairns CBD.

Leading a small team and reporting to the Business Manager, the Transport Coordinator will ensure the optimal operation of transport services in support of the curricular and extra-curricular goals of the College.

Candidates will be required to meet the following selection criteria:

  • Proven experience in the management of a transport operation or fleet.
  • Ability to drive both a manual and automatic school bus.
  • Responsible for the quality, efficient and effective scheduling of College transport requirements.
  • Work closely with the Business Manager to regularly review, plan, cost and develop bus routes.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant Australian Transport Operations standards and codes and the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
  • Develop safe working procedures and train and monitor transport staff performance in relation to those procedures.
  • Oversee all fleet repairs and maintenance in line with statutory and government authority acts and regulations and ensure that all compliance obligations are met.
  • Strong ICT, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellence in stakeholder engagement with a well-developed sense of responsibility and initiative.
  • Manage time effectively and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Commit to developing a culture of best practice and continuous improvement and be willing to contribute to work practices that enhance safety and wellbeing.
  • Current HR driver’s licence and Working With Children card.
  • Availability to be rostered for some weekend and school holiday driving (where required).
